Our Engagement Struggles

July 14th, 2012 was the date of our engagement. I had to work all afternoon that Saturday, so we had plans to eat that night at this nice Italian restaurant, Max's Brick Oven. I had always wanted to go there and it's something we had talked about for a long time, so I didn't think anything of it when Nathan told me he had reservations. The area around the restaurant is so pretty. There are brick roads, old street lamps, and trees lining the sidewalks. When we turned onto Max's street corner, I looked up and saw this -

It was the most perfect, happiest moment of my life. We quickly set a date and started planning our future together. However, a couple of weeks later Nathan was laid off from work and we had to postpone the wedding. I had a hard time dealing with that at first. I put away the wedding planner and swore off any further forethought for the rest of the year. In the meantime I felt like everyone around me was getting engaged or married, and moving along with their lives just the way I had planned to do.

We've come a long way in a very short period of time. Both of us have struggled with understanding why this happened at the particular time it did, during a time that should have been filled with happiness. But, we've learned to accept that this is God's plan for us and that we don't have to understand it. We just have to trust it. (Jeremiah 29:11) Please pray for us as we continue to grow in our relationship and in trusting God's plan for our life together. In the meantime, we are starting this new year with grateful hearts!

  1. oh my goodness, you guys are so freaking adorable!!!! Life is funny how it works sometimes, but all we can do is believe in Him to lead us the way. I totally understand the whole job thing as my last day of work is this Friday... but I always look on the positive side... something better is coming along. You guys are so blessed to have each other and I will keep you in my prayers. And seriously, stop with the cuteness!!! hahaha.

    1. Thanks Kenya! I know you understand the feelings we're having. You telling me you were losing your job is actually what got me thinking about putting all of this out there. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as well!
